Role Summary
Rivian Electrical R&D are the backbone of GSD (Getting Stuff Done!) for our Hardware teams. Rivian is continuing to integrate major electrical systems and components and rapidly growing vertically. Responsibilities

Conceptualize design and perform numerical simulations to address a variety of thermal design challenges for leading-edge vehicle electrical hardware.
\nDevelop electronic cooling and packaging solutions for next generation vehicle architectures and electronic systems.
\nDefine and support best practices for how CFD can be used towards electronic thermal management for high-power requirements.
\nDevelop strategies for optimizing thermal and mechanical components by minimizing mass, cost and material usage.
\nProvide detailed and actionable design suggestions including thermal stack-up, cooling layout and material selection to engineers responsible for detailed design of vehicle electronics.

Coordinate and work with other analysts across other departments to coordinate analysis methodologies and design constraints.
\nOwn and drive thermal methodologies, deliverables and test specifications to support modeling efforts.
\nWork in multidisciplinary teams and drive product and engineering excellence.
\n
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering or equivalent; Masters or PhD preferred.

5+ years of experience in providing electronic cooling solutions, including heat sink design, fan development and evaluation of thermal interface materials.
\nDeep understanding of conduction, convection and radiation.
\nStrong expertise with computational modeling and common CFD analysis tools, such as Flotherm, Ansys, Star CCM.
\nExperience with flow and measurement techniques.
\nExperience with 3D CAD, scripting and data analysis.

Strong grasp of failure analysis methodologies and experience with product reliability and validation procedures.
\nExperience developing and leading other multidisciplinary engineers.
\nExcellent communication skills across all functions and levels.
\nExcellent documentation practices.
\nFluent written and spoken English.

Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California based applicants: $163,000 - $188,000 (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
