About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

The well-qualified candidate will be responsible for the technical leadership and direction of the Inverter HIL  systems. The candidate will also be responsible for the design, implementation and execution of tests for software components for power electronics and support ECUs on a hardware in the loop setup. Designing test cases for these ECUs will require knowledge in various embedded architectures from bare metal to RTOS implementations.  Typical components that require test involve complex PWM, A/D, D/A, resolver interface/processing, low latency discrete board-to-board communication, complex timer applications for waveform generation/control. This position will require a deep understanding of modern multi-core 32-bit embedded controller peripherals and architecture.  The candidate will develop these test cases in python and run them on Hardware in the loop systems. These systems are intended to emulate close loop controls and require in-depth knowledge of the target systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the current state of the HIL systems and establish a roadmap to align with company test objectives with emphasis on cost, integration, reuse and test coverage of feature requirements.
  • Analyze and implement integration of HIL with other system level ECUs.
  • Document and create requirements, test software and test procedures and results for traction inverter application, HAL, and OS software.
  • Design measurable and automatable test case suites. These test suites should cover multiple programs, considering their respective maturity levels.
  • Develop and maintain automation test scripts for HIL. Support writing SIL test cases whenever necessary.
  • Coordinate with other test and manufacturing groups to facilitate prototype and production efforts and goals.
  • Design test cases with ISO-26262 awareness, compliance, and support
  • Work with cross functional teams (EPC software and including but not limited to algorithm, controls, firmware, HIL, systems, mechanical, and electrical) to develop the test cases for system and subsystem HILs, SIL, and unit test.
  • Manage the traceability of test coverage from requirements to validation at different granularity levels of requirements on the HIL with growing SW maturity levels.
  • Report test coverage status to leadership on a regular basis.
  • Triage and debug the failed test cases and communicate bugs and software gaps to relevant stakeholders.
  • Investigate and resolve failed and erroneous test cases, distinguishing between software bugs and HIL-related failures.
  • Maintain and update calibrations in test cases, ensuring proper parameterization in accordance with software parity.
  • Act as a stakeholder for test approval activities related to traction inverters.

Qualifications

  • Ability to automate test cases using scripting languages such as Python/Perl/Unix shell.
  • Fluency in state-of-the-art embedded software practices using the C programming language.
  • Proficiency in version control software processes and techniques (GitFlow)
  • Strong understanding of modern software component design and test methods as well as flashing tools and build pipelines for CI/CD.
  • Awareness of ISO-26262 practices. Direct experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in HV battery or EV systems is preferred.
  • Expertise with data acquisition and calibration software (CANalyzer, CANape or similar XCP/CCP interface tools, JTAG/DAP interface debuggers)
  • Familiarity with model-based design and being able to view and analyze models and generated C source code.
  • Experience with requirement and issue tracking management tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Good team player with great communication skills.
  • Self-motivated: Demonstrated ability to set direction and guide the team towards it.
  • At least a B.Sc. degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/ Engineering or Computer Science. M.Sc. degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities

Pay Disclosure

  • Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $189,000 - $217,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
  • Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
