Responsibilities

  • Candidate will be responsible for project management and engineering deliverables for the development of PCR / LTR tires
  • Technically lead tire programs and demonstrate leadership during tire strategic and concept phase discussions
  • Design and implement tire component and systems, integrating with chassis component systems from concept to production
  • Capture vehicle level tire related requirements & attributes, and deliver against those targets.
  • Seek solutions to technical challenges & problem solve issues arising during the tire development & in serial production (with tire and assembly)
  • Ensure tire component and subsystems meet all markets into which Rivian vehicles will be offered.
  • Develop and write Tire Design and Develop Rivian standards and guidelines.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience gained from working within tire development in conjunction with lean principles to enhance the tire offering for future vehicles at Rivian.
  • Operate as a standalone role and responsible for owning program specific tire chassis deliverables
  • Deliver technical presentations, recommendations and solutions relating to tire development to executive leadership.
  • Scout and contribute towards tire technology roadmap.
  • Create and develop engineering specification packages that effectively communicate to internal and external partners to ensure products meet given project parameters.
  • Understand, interpret and ensure tire related local, regional and international homologation requirements are met.
  • Maintain and manage tire component and vehicle level sub system design verification requirements & testing.
  • Complete and release tire and/or tire wheel assembly documentation, including 2D drawings
  • Manage designed parts in the virtual environment and support virtual build and release activities
  • Develop collaborative relationships with tire suppliers & tire assemblers, and manage them to deliver projects on time and to specification
  • Supporting initial tire submissions, working alongside the Vehicle Dynamics Team, translating vehicle level requirements into tire component requirements, planning and implementation of measures.
  • Effectively balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously
  • Discuss, understand and meet tire attributes requirements with internal stakeholders
  • Meet program timing & budget constraints whilst achieving vehicle dynamic, crash, aero, NVH and chassis attribute targets
  • Define validation procedures to ensure only optimized, integrated and robust designs are released
  • Travel as necessary to support tire testing, supplier visits & production engineering support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Automotive, Mechanical or Motorsport engineering required
  • Minimum 5 years Tire design and/or development experience required at Tire Supplier or OEM
  • Must be familiar with DFMEA/DVPR usage and review of these documents
  • Must be familiar with the use of tire models to predict and design in simulation environments.
  • Experience using CAD (ideally CATIA V6) required
  • Solid fundamental knowledge of chassis design, vehicle dynamics, wheel & tire alignment, tire uniformity and tire design contributors to vehicle level performance
  • Understanding of wheel & tire design standards & code (ETRTO, TR&A etc) & homologation
  • Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Candidates should have the ability to manage multiple tire projects at the same time
  • Candidates should have strong leadership qualities to drive and encourage success throughout the team.
  • Must be confident to make technical recommendations based on experience, data & research.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates & suppliers.
  • Must be a self-starter, use initiative and engineering judgement.
  • Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems using first principles.

Pay Disclosure

Salary range for California Based Applicants: $150,000-$173,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

 

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
