About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Rivian/Iternio is establishing a strong foothold in the Lund technology scene and attracting talent aligned with Rivian's core values and motivated by our challenging vision of saving the planet by disrupting and revolutionizing the automobile industry. We are a cross functional team of all backgrounds that values diversity of culture, ideas, and talent. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing team early on and help grow our digital technology platform's technical foundation.

Iternio, based in Lund, Sweden, is a vital part of Rivian, and known for ABetterRouteplanner (ABRP), the leading EV trip planning app. We specialize in providing EV planning services and APIs, serving both Rivian's in-car navigation and external clients, including other car manufacturers.

Create server-side functionality for core services, refine backend architecture for deeper AWS integration, and optimize the database setup with ElasticSearch and Redis for multi-region deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Create server-side functionality to handle our core services – EV planning, vehicle telemetry, charger data management as well as our ABRP-specific backend-for-frontend functionality
  • Refine and modernize our backend architecture in our journey towards a deeper AWS integration
  • Work with our database setup – we are moving towards more and more ElasticSearch usage and use Redis for fast storage and caching, also with respect to multi-region deployment
  • Develop our event and data streaming framework built on NATS/Jetstream and Protobuf
  • Ensure our high-availability architecture meets requirements and works as intended during incidents
  • Develop our vast data lake of (anonymized) EV vehicle data telemetry and plan history to develop new products and knowledge out of what is there
  • Collaborate with the ABRP app team and other customers to ensure we create end-to-end products with agility and high quality
  • Come together with your peers to share ideas, ask why with an open and curious mind, learn from each other’s diverse perspectives, to deliver great work as a team
  • Develop, unit test, and document performant code, both agility and quality
  • Help define the architectural vision of the team
  • Mentor other engineers, helping them learn and improve their technical skills

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of software engineering industry experience, with 2+ years of building large scale enterprise-grade systems, preferred
  • Expert at designing, building, and maintaining robust, large-scale distributed systems that can handle thousands of transactions/second
  • Deep knowledge of modern Python, our backend language
  • Experience with distributed databases
  • Familiarity working with AWS Lambdas and Kubernetes, or other serverless and container-based architectures
  • Great understanding and experience with high-availability requirements and architecture, redundancy, replication, load balancing etc
  • Experience in web API architecture, typed interfaces and standardized ways of making the APIs both well defined and easy to both extend (for us) and use (for the customers)
  • Great understanding and experience of devops, CI/CD pipelines, automatic testing and deployments
  • Great understanding of caching, security, and privacy considerations
  • Clear and compelling communication of your thoughts and ideas
  • Experience with Agile and SCRUM in the software development life cycle
  • An open mind, ready to debate all architectural updates and changes and review your colleague’s changes in a friendly and constructive tone!
