Software Engineering Manager, Service

Job Description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Rivian’s Service Intake team within the Enterprise Technology Group created and improves the applications and services that facilitate bringing one’s Rivian vehicle back for service. With our systems, customers can request service and track their service journey, and our stakeholders, the Service Operations Group, can understand and respond to our customers' needs.

As an empathetic Software Engineering Manager, you will serve a group of world class software engineers, guiding them as they define, design, and build large-scale business-critical applications using modern micro-frontends and micro-services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing group, and affect how you grow your team.

• Engage your team to deliver aligned results.

• Enable the success of the people in your care, your team.

• Partner with your product manager to help your engineers understand the requirements, and guide them as they architect applicable solutions. You know how to ask questions to reduce ambiguity, so requirements align with the spoken and unspoken needs of stakeholders.

• Serve a team of talented engineers to design and develop end-to-end services across web/app (React), backend (Node/Python/GraphQL), and 3rd party integrations.

• Foster the beliefs that we "win as a team", and we "learn to get better."

• Collaborate with partner engineering teams in Serbia and in USA, as you support each other to implement cross-team initiatives.

• Help your Product Manager refine your product backlog and lead the team in SCRUM activities, as the Scrum Master.

• Recruit, grow, and mentor your engineering team to five to six engineers within the next six months

• You have a minimum of a combined 8 years of experience as a software engineer and manager, preferably with 2 of those years serving a team as the manager.

• You possess extensive experience building end-to-end, cloud-native, distributed applications.

• You've designed and implemented resilient and performant systems, so you know what to ask your team as you guide them through those exercises.

• You know how to shield your team in a fast paced, agile work environment, so they remain engaged and fulfilled, as they work to deliver aligned results.

• You are passionate about creating a culture of openness, safety, teamwork, and learning.

• You inspire and engage your team to innovate and think creatively.

• You know how to hire and retain talented engineers.

• Three or four years of basic academic studies in computer science or related engineering field, or relevant software industry experience.
