About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

In this role you will be a member of the Perception team at Rivian, which develops advanced machine learning algorithms that directly impact safety critical self-driving features of our category defining vehicles. You will be responsible for design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance of components of our large-scale data infrastructure that drives our Machine Learning development in Perception.

Responsibilities

  • Develop production-ready, scalable software to enable data-driven development for the perception team
  • Collaborate closely with ML practitioners to understand their models, identify avenues to improve model performance and create new approaches when necessary.
  • Gain holistic understanding of the entire perception stack to establish and implement processes that can identify issues and prevent regression.
  • Develop large-scale data mining tools to improve our “data-loop” and enable quick resolution to edge cases.
  • Develop software tools to benchmark and analyze model performance, data distribution and ensure test coverage for the perception stack.
  • Collaborate with downstream teams within the autonomy group (prediction, planning, mapping etc.) to ensure we meet the feature requirements.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong C++ or Python programming background
  • Strong experience building large-scale software infrastructure managing high-bandwidth data used in machine learning
  • Experience with tools and processes for curation, mining, active-learning, evaluation, etc. in a computer vision, autonomous driving, or robotics context.
  • Good team player with great communication skills
  • Nice to have experience of utilizing foundation models, and labeling tools and for fast curation and labeling iterations with expanded taxonomy.
