Role Summary

The Smart Diagnostics team at Rivian supports the development and deployment of Rivian’s Smart

Diagnostics AI system that drives in-vehicle and remote diagnostics using traditional ML and Generative

AI. We focus on diagnosis, prognosis and predictive service and maintenance of Rivian vehicles. Our

systems are used by internal teams and Rivian vehicle owners alike.

We operate highly scalable infrastructure for serving and orchestrating LLMs, Vector Stores, and agents.

This role will be focused on delivering quality software and backend services, enhancing the utility of

GenAI frameworks, and exploring the bleeding edge of this new technology. This role is based out of our Palo Alto Office and reports directly to Sr. Manager, Smart Diagnostics team.


Responsibilities

● Work with LLM and AI/ML systems to drive impact through automation.

● Focus on multimodal inputs: text, image, audio or video.

● Architect, implement, deploy and evaluate models and features towards predictive and

preventive maintenance of Rivian’s fleet of vehicles.

● Write high-quality code, with emphasis on maintainability, readability, and testing.

● Review code and technical designs.

● Be thoughtful about the customer experience and limitations of modern AI systems.

● Willingness to learn and work on other parts of our platform stack.

● Design clean experiments and analyze effectively by performing statistical analysis.

● Gain a unique look into how EV’s work inside-out and strengthen your EV domain knowledge

● Collaborate with agile cross-functional teams to roll out new ML models in production


Qualifications

● 3+ years of experience building high impact ML models in production as a machine learning

engineer or applied machine learning scientist.

● Experience with ML software packages and tools (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Torch, Spacy, NLTK).

● Proficient in at least one or more programming languages including but not limited to Python or

Golang.

● Familiarity with modern data storage messaging and processing tools (MongoDB, Cassandra,

Redis, Spark, Elastic and big data systems).

● Solid foundation in statistics/linear algebra and self-sufficient in data exploration,

experimentation and analytics

● Experience with machine learning techniques and advanced analytics (e.g. regression,

classification, time series, causal inference, text analytics)

● Apply research and academic work to real-world problems

● Desire to learn new technologies on the job

● Knowledge of Agile Development of Accessible Software Tools

● Master’s Degree in related field

Preferred Qualifications

● PHD in related field

● Experience with timeseries data

● Worked at a SaaS or business software company

● Past experience with EV’s


Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $162,800.00 - $203,500.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
