Role Summary
As a Vehicle Detailer within Rivian’s Vehicle Operations team, you will play a key role in ensuring that every vehicle leaving our facilities meets our high standards of cleanliness, quality, and presentation. You will be responsible for performing Level 1 and Level 2 detail work as well as additional cosmetic corrective repairs to ensure that vehicles are aesthetically ready for delivery, service, or customer handover. You will also support quality inspection efforts to ensure cosmetic standards are upheld and will assist in managing work orders related to detailing, cosmetic rework, and reconditioning.
Responsibilities
Detailing and Cosmetic Rework:
- Perform thorough exterior and interior cleaning, including washing, vacuuming, polishing, and touch-up detailing.
- Address minor cosmetic imperfections such as scratches, scuffs, and stains in accordance with Rivian’s cosmetic standards.
- Execute Level 1 and Level 2 detail work as outlined in the Vehicle Operations detailing standards.
- Execute paint corrections and dent repair as needed.
- Apply protective coatings, such as sealers and paint protection film (PPF), where necessary.
- Safely use specialized equipment such as high-speed buffers, orbital polishers, and steam cleaners.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect vehicles for cosmetic defects using both visual and tactile methods to identify issues.
- Utilize gloss meters, thickness gauges, and paint inspection lights to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensure that all vehicles meet Rivian’s high aesthetic and quality standards, addressing any deficiencies before delivery or customer handover.
- Work closely with Vehicle Operations Specialists to ensure proper tracking of cosmetic repairs through work orders and Task OS.
Collaboration and Workflow Management:
- Coordinate with the Vehicle Operations team to prioritize detailing work based on delivery schedules and customer needs.
- Support Vehicle Operations in spot detail work that requires less than 10 minutes per vehicle.
- Assist in maintaining proper supplies, tools, and equipment required for efficient detailing operations.
Operational Excellence:
- Uphold a clean and organized detailing environment, ensuring the safety and efficiency of daily operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to streamline detailing processes and enhance vehicle quality.
- Assist in training new Vehicle Operations Specialists on detailing best practices, cosmetic standards, and work order management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive detailing or body shop repair is a plus.
- Proficiency in the use of high-speed buffers, orbital polishers, dual-action sanders, and other mechanical tools.
- Knowledge of various types of paints, clear coats, and protective finishes.
- Ability to apply sealers and paint protection films (PPF).
- Skilled in wet sanding, scratch removal, and polishing techniques.
- Understanding of automotive paint correction processes and equipment.
- Experience using inspection tools such as gloss meters and paint thickness gauges.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards related to chemicals, detailing products, and vehicle handling.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in automotive detailing, with a focus on high-end vehicles.
- Experience working in a high-volume automotive service or delivery environment is preferred.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks required for vehicle cleaning.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
