Role Summary
As a Technical Writing Manager, you will be leading a team of writers, providing feedback, driving process improvements, and collaborating internally to ensure that we deliver content on time and at high quality. As a core member of the Technical Writing team, you will advocate for writers and build supportive relationships with cross-functional team members. Your role will involve building and maintaining strong partnerships with engineering and product leaders, keeping up with the latest technical product updates, and developing the team for continued success.
Responsibilities
- Develop, motivate, mentor, and support a team of technical writers on technical product knowledge, cross-functional collaboration, content creation, and innovation.
- Develop relevant content, tools, and processes to streamline writer onboarding and documentation request intake, ensuring a better customer experience with our Engineering, Product, and Field stakeholders.
- Track and manage multiple projects across the team in a fast-paced environment. Communicate project goals, dependencies, and deadlines to all stakeholders and ensure that everyone is effectively working with the same information with set expectations.
- Identify and address content feedback on a regular basis to constantly improve customer experience.
- Assess the relevance and impact of hardware and software change requests to the Technical Writing team, in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement to team processes including prioritization, reporting, metrics, project documentation, and roadmaps
- Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, Localization, Infrastructure, and Service teams across all programs to stay updated on the latest product launches, new market entries, and top issues.
Qualifications
- Degree in English, Technical Writing, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of people management experience, directly leading and mentoring technical writing or content teams.
- Ability to meet deadlines, respond to high-priority escalations from leadership, and prioritize tasks to manage the team’s workload and throughput.
- Knowledge of HTML or XML authoring tools such as MadCap Flare or Oxygen (experience specifically in MadCap Flare a plus).
- Thorough understanding of the end-to-end content creation, publication, and localization processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with team collaboration and release tracking tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Google Suite.
- Good rapport and collaboration with internal customers and stakeholders.
- 10+ years of technical writing or content creation experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with working in start-up environments is a plus.
- Experience with both automotive hardware and software technology is a plus.
