Role Summary

The Lead, Charging Design, Commercial Development works closely with the Real Estate, Construction, Operations and Purchasing managers and shall lead facilities design projects to ensure all design, diligence, financial, administrative, contractual, and technical aspects of multiple projects are being executed, as required.

The primary function of the Lead, Charging Design is to manage the design, utility grid connection, entitlement, and Engineer of Record to complete the documentation for/of charging infrastructure and report to the Sr. Manager, Charging Development, Commercial Facilities. The Design Manager is the primary contact for each assigned project during due diligence, concept design, and construction document management.


Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to meet and exceed regional deployment goals, focused on schedule predictability and budget envelope
  • Able to work independently to execute projects successfully, as predicted relative to go live date, and at/under budget
  • Possesses deep expertise in electric vehicle charging design, utility coordination, permitting and construction
  • Works effectively with limited supervision, focusing on team KPIs and able to lead communication with all stakeholders
  • Responsible to develop and maintain critical vendor relationships
  • Accompany the real estate team on site visits, provide design and build feedback to influence site selection and layout
  • Create concept designs for new sites scouted by the real estate team
  • Lead concept design, utility due diligence, permitting due diligence, and order ALTA surveys per process standards
  • Work with the Construction team to generate project budgets
  • Order, review and redline all drawings produced by either in-house or 3rd party engineering teams
  • Build relationships with utility companies. Coordinate with stakeholders to generate appropriate utility designs, easements, line extension agreements, and construction orders
  • Represent Rivian at zoning hearings. Coordinate with municipalities as needed for permits
  • Support in creating contractor and vendor RFP documents (scope narratives, schedules, etc.) and attending job walks and selection/award review meetings
  • Oversee smooth transition from real estate site selection to design to construction
  • Resolve field construction problems in coordination with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies as necessary
  • Build out Rivian’s vendor base by finding, qualifying, and training design firms, material suppliers, and general contractors
  • Lead projects “the Rivian way,” providing professional influence on the work exemplifying respect, leadership, commitment, vision and teamwork
  • Plan, coordinate, and provide leadership in the execution of complex, fast-paced and/or unorthodox construction projects
  • Risk management as it pertains to contracting best practices with designers, contractors, and material suppliers
  • Manage multiple projects and issues effectively
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications and general building code
  • Proven critical-thinker and problem-solver
  • Travel up to 50% of the time
  • Possesses written and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations
  • Conduct meetings and provide effective leadership to project team members
  • Develop and manage budgets within established parameters
  • Manage change in design scope with internal stakeholders

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management, is preferred, or similar number of years of experience in the field
  • Five (5) years of experience managing construction projects of similar size and complexity
  • A Professional Engineering license is desired but not required

  • This includes the ability to spend extended hours walking construction sites and traveling to different project sites and offices

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job
  • This role will be based at a regional, local, or home office, visit job site locations, and attend meetings at multiple offices
  • Exposure to outdoors, dust, high noise levels, hot and cold weather is likely
  • Wearing personal protective equipment is mandatory

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for Irvine, CA based applicants: $125,000 - $156,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
