Job Description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Rivian is hiring a Staff Validation Integration Engineer to lead end-to-end validation strategy and execution for Rivian’s ESS Test & Validation organization. You will own the integration of requirements, DVPR, and risk-based test planning across hardware, BMS software, thermal/mechanical subsystems, and vehicle interfaces to enable safe, reliable launches. Through DFMEA/NUDD based DVP development, test execution coordination, issue triage, and ESO readiness reporting, you will drive cross-functional alignment and accountability. You will mentor engineers and elevate validation rigor through data-driven dashboards, clear measurable requirements, and continuous improvement of processes, test design, and demonstrated reliability tracking.

If you thrive at the intersection of systems engineering, hands-on execution, and high level program management—and want to shape the performance, safety, and durability of our packs at scale—this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end ESS validation strategy from concept through engineering sign-off readiness and into post-SOP support, aligning scope, timing, and risk.
  • Translate DFMEA/NUDD outputs into DVP/DVPR with clear, measurable requirements and risk-based prioritization.
  • Review test specifications to ensure that test design appropriately addresses the risk identified in the DFMEA / NUDD.
  • Drive demonstrated reliability strategy, including multi-level plans, failure-mode tracking, and reliability gap closure.
  • Lead ESO readiness reviews and manage deviations and approvals to enable on-time launches with quantified risk.
  • Integrate cross-functional inputs across design, systems, reliability, test, software/BMS, manufacturing, and operations to ensure cohesive validation execution.
  • Plan and orchestrate test execution across pack, module, and system levels (e.g., durability, cycle life, shock and vibration, thermal characterization, safety/abuse, FuSa).
  • Establish and maintain validation dashboards (burn-up, schedule risk, SDVP health, data completeness) to create transparency and drive accountability.
  • Continually audit DVP coverage to ensure all testing is represented, requirements are objective and testable, and status reflects accurate progress.
  • Own issue triage and closure by coordinating root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and confirmation testing; track learnings to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage BOM coverage mapping (part maturity/suffix alignment) against the validation plan; flag and resolve gaps and late-breaking changes.
  • Leverage data, models, and CAE outputs to inform test design, accelerate decisions, and reconcile test vs. simulation outcomes.
  • Define entry/exit criteria and gating deliverables for validation phases to control risk and maintain program cadence.
  • Create and maintain program schedules/ECDs for validation activities; identify critical paths and execute recovery plans when risks materialize.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, standardize methods and tooling, and drive continuous improvement (process, automation, and analytics).
  • Communicate crisply to leadership with status, risks, confidence levels, and tradeoffs; advocate for data-driven decisions at key program gates.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with high voltage battery systems
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team and driving collaborative consensus on challenging issues
  • Well-versed in the technical/engineering details of high-voltage lithium-ion battery testing, validation, operations, equipment, and facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience as a key contributor to design failure mode effects analysis efforts.
  • Experience with reliability test planning including sample size definition and damage acceleration models.
  • Experience with component and coupon tests and validation.
  • Experience simplifying complex test suites into component or interface-level testing and validation efforts to expedite results-gathering.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a positive outlook and motivated attitude.
  • Experience in utilizing Jira, Confluence, JAMA, and Plato is highly desirable.
