About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

The Manager, Security Operations Center (SOC) will own the strategy, operation, and evolution of our current SOC, transforming it into a world-class, AI-enabled, global operations center. You’ll lead the charge in bridging physical security with technical innovation, ensuring the safety of our people, assets, and flagship facilities in a way that empowers our mission to keep the world adventurous forever

You’ll follow and set standards, provide operational direction, work alongside cross-functional partners, and ensure our global footprint is monitored with resilient, scalable, and proactive solutions. This isn’t a traditional "monitor and respond" SOC; you will leverage AI, computer vision, bleeding-edge tech, integrations, and advanced automation to build a data-driven hub that anticipates risk and drives rapid response across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of the SOC program; from strategy, assessments, and budgeting to the seamless integration and technical development of all SOC systems into a cohesive, automated, platform.
  • Serve as the Incident Commander (IC), leading cross-organizational crisis management teams during high-pressure events, ensuring rapid, high-quality response for P0 and high-complexity incidents.
  • Act as the operational authority for the SOC, championing the use of AI for predictive risk modeling, real-time threat detection, and the automation of routine security workflows.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Emergency Management, EHS, Investigations, and business stakeholders to translate complex security data and risk metrics into clear, actionable business intelligence for senior leadership.
  • Define success metrics, monitor service health, and drive continuous improvement. Identify, streamline, and automate high-volume or repetitive work to reduce analyst load and improve response speed.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse 24/7 team of supervisors and operators, building training programs and exercises that continuously strengthen team capability.
  • Partner closely with leadership, cross functional stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure that escalation frameworks, SOPs, and SOC procedures are aligned with how the company actually runs globally.
  • Assess existing implementations with a risk-based lens, making recommendations that balance life safety, operational uptime, system resilience, and employee experience.
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation throughout the operational lifecycle, and prepare concise updates and recommendations for security leadership and key business partners.
  • Flexible working hours. Our operations are global, complex, and 24/7. This means you’ll occasionally work nights, weekends, or holidays to support our teams, manage critical incidents, and ensure our business needs are met.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of security leadership experience, with a minimum of 5+ years successfully managing a SOC/GSOC in a complex, high-growth, environment.
  • Strong hands‑on background with core physical security systems and modern incident management software (Genetec)
  • Deep experience with SOC Operations, automation, response platforms, and data analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated success serving as an Incident Commander, making calm, structured, data-informed decisions in time-sensitive or ambiguous operational scenarios.
  • Proven ability to act as a "clean sheet" thinker—challenging conventional thinking with grit, anticipating challenges, and implementing practical solutions.
  • Superior communication skills with the proven ability to translate complex risks into actionable intelligence, communicating clearly from the SOC floor to executive leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience; CPP or PSP certifications highly desired.
  • Schedule flexibility to adapt to urgent crises, global time zones, and the 24/7 nature of the operation.
