Role Summary

Are you a curious, analytically-minded data scientist eager to grow your skills in a fast-moving environment? Rivian Volkswagen's Vehicle Access team is looking for an entry-level Data Scientist to join our expanding data science function. This is an opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and scientists, contribute to real-world vehicle data pipelines, and begin building the skills that power intelligent, customer-facing features.

About the Team:The Vehicle Access team innovates how customers interact with their vehicles. Our data science team is small and growing, focused on system health, issue prediction, and personalizing the vehicle access journey. Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Analytics
  • Learn and document raw vehicle access signals, building familiarity with the data landscape under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving existing data pipelines that transform raw data into aggregated datasets used by product and engineering teams.
  • Support the creation and upkeep of health-monitoring dashboards (Tableau, Hex, or Looker), ensuring data accuracy and helping validate instrumentation.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis on vehicle access datasets to surface early-stage insights and flag anomalies.
Statistical analysis & experimentation
  • Apply foundational statistical methods — including hypothesis testing, descriptive statistics, and confidence interval calculation — to well-defined analytical tasks.
  • Support pre-launch baseline analyses by computing performance metrics to help validate systems before feature deployment, with guidance from senior scientists.
  • Assist in testing internal statistical tooling, helping to validate outputs and document methodology.
Professional excellence & ownership
  • Complete assigned tasks reliably and on time, demonstrating accountability for personal deliverables.
  • Ask clarifying questions, embrace feedback, and collaborate effectively within the team.
  • Contribute to team documentation, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing discussions.
  • Develop curiosity and a learning mindset in the evolving EV space, proactively seeking to understand the business context behind your work.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1+ years of experience in a data science, data analytics, or data engineering role (internship experience counts).
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction and basic manipulation.
  • Foundational programming skills in Python, including familiarity with data manipulation libraries such as Pandas or NumPy.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and probability, including descriptive statistics, sampling, and hypothesis testing concepts.
  • Exposure to data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Hex, or similar) — coursework or personal projects welcome.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain findings to teammates.
  • Interest in or curiosity about the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry is a plus.
