As a Senior Cloud Engineer on Sokin’s Crypto team, you will architect, deploy, and optimise the cloud infrastructure that powers our stablecoin payments platform and general company services.
You’ll design and operate the secure, high-availability environments that underpin real-time blockchain settlement, on-chain and off-chain payment routing, and the fiat on-ramp and off-ramp flows that connect traditional banking rails with digital-asset networks. This role sits at the intersection of cloud-native engineering and crypto infrastructure — you’ll be responsible for everything from running blockchain nodes and managing signing infrastructure to building the resilient, compliant cloud foundations that the rest of the engineering organisation depends on.
A critical part of this role involves ensuring that our cloud environments meet the regulatory requirements of both traditional fintech (PCI-DSS, GDPR, SOC 2) and the evolving digital-asset landscape (MiCA, travel rule). You’ll collaborate closely with blockchain developers, security teams, treasury, and compliance to deliver infrastructure that is as auditable and secure as it is performant.
Success means delivering infrastructure that is measurably more reliable, cost-efficient, and secure — enabling the Crypto team to ship products faster without compromising on compliance or operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure
Architect and deploy secure, scalable, and cost-optimised AWS infrastructure to support Sokin’s payments platform, stablecoin settlement services, and real-time transaction processing.
Design high-availability, multi-region architectures that meet the latency and throughput demands of cross-border payment flows.
Own the end-to-end infrastructure lifecycle — from capacity planning and provisioning through monitoring, optimisation, and decommissioning.
Blockchain & Crypto Infrastructure
Build and maintain blockchain node infrastructure (RPC endpoints, indexers, event listeners) required for on-chain settlement and stablecoin operations.
Design and operate secure key management and custody infrastructure for blockchain wallets and transaction signing.
Implement infrastructure for fiat on-ramp/off-ramp services, ensuring reliable connectivity between traditional payment rails and blockchain networks.
Monitor blockchain node health, chain synchronisation, and mempool conditions to ensure transaction reliability.
Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD
Develop and maintain IaC using Terraform to automate all infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
Integrate cloud infrastructure with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, enabling seamless and repeatable deployments.
Implement GitOps workflows and automated testing for infrastructure changes, including policy-as-code compliance checks.
Security & Compliance
Implement cloud security best practices — IAM, encryption at rest and in transit, network segmentation, and secrets management — tailored to fintech and digital-asset regulatory standards.
Ensure cloud environments satisfy PCI-DSS, GDPR, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 requirements, as well as emerging digital-asset regulations (MiCA, travel rule).
Collaborate with compliance and security teams to support audit readiness, real-time transaction monitoring, and incident response procedures.
Design and enforce network security policies for blockchain-facing infrastructure, including firewall rules, DDoS mitigation, and secure RPC access.
Monitoring, Performance & Cost Optimisation
Build comprehensive observability stacks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana) covering cloud infrastructure, application performance, and blockchain node metrics.
Optimise cloud spend through reserved instances, spot instances, right-sizing, and intelligent auto-scaling strategies.
Design and implement disaster recovery strategies and high-availability architectures ensuring 99.99% uptime SLA.
Establish alerting and on-call processes that enable rapid detection and resolution of infrastructure incidents.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Work closely with blockchain developers, backend engineers, security teams, and product managers to deliver robust cloud solutions.
Mentor junior cloud and DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, automation, and continuous improvement.
Participate in incident response, conduct blameless post-mortems, and drive systemic reliability improvements.
Contribute to architectural decision records and internal documentation to maintain a strong engineering knowledge base.
Required Qualifications
Experience
5+ years of professional cloud engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a fintech, payments, or other regulated industry.
Proven track record of designing and managing production AWS infrastructure at scale.
Hands-on experience with Terraform (or equivalent IaC) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
Demonstrable experience building or operating blockchain node infrastructure and crypto-related cloud services.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AWS with relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent strongly preferred).
Expertise in scripting and automation (Python, Bash).
Strong understanding of networking (VPC, subnets, VPN, load balancers, service mesh).
Knowledge of blockchain infrastructure — running nodes, RPC providers, on-chain data indexing, and wallet/key management systems.
Understanding of stablecoin mechanics — minting/burning, settlement flows, liquidity management, and the major stablecoin protocols and issuers.
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Datadog).
Understanding of microservices architectures and serverless computing (Lambda, Step Functions).
Regulatory & Domain Knowledge
Familiarity with fintech compliance requirements: PCI-DSS, GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001.
Understanding of digital-asset regulations (MiCA, travel rule) and their infrastructure implications.
Awareness of crypto custody requirements, on-ramp/off-ramp compliance, and transaction monitoring obligations.
Nice to Have
Experience with GCP as a secondary cloud provider.
Hands-on experience with real-time streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis) for transaction event processing.
Familiarity with zero-knowledge proof infrastructure or privacy-preserving computation.
Experience with DeFi protocols, DEX integrations, or cross-chain bridge infrastructure.
Contributions to open-source cloud, DevOps, or blockchain tooling.
Understanding of traditional payment rails (SEPA, Faster Payments, ACH, SWIFT) and how they interface with crypto settlement.
