The Role
As a Packaging Engineer on our Product Quality, Engineering, and Responsible Sourcing team, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing innovative packaging solutions for our new and existing products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product designers, engineers, supply chain, manufacturers, and marketing professionals, to ensure that our packaging meets functional requirements and aligns with our brand identity and sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Packaging Design and Development:
- Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for new and existing products.
- Utilize your expertise in materials science, engineering principles, and design aesthetics to create functional and visually appealing packaging.
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and goals.
- Development of packaging for both brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce, with a keen understanding of the difference between the two and when which is appropriate.
- Innovation and Sustainability:
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in packaging.
- Drive innovation by identifying and implementing sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with product designers, engineers, and marketing teams to ensure seamless integration of packaging with product development goals.
- Work closely with suppliers to source and evaluate new packaging materials and technologies.
- Quality Assurance:
- Establish and implement quality standards for packaging materials and processes.
- Conduct testing and analysis to ensure packaging meets regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Cost Optimization:
- Evaluate and recommend cost-effective packaging solutions without compromising quality or performance.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of packaging specifications, design iterations, and testing results.
- Prepare regular reports on packaging development progress and challenges for the management team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in packaging design and development, preferably in a product development or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of materials science, packaging regulations, and industry trends.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
